Northern Nuu-chah-Nulth Economic Development Tourism Opportunity Study

This project was conducted for the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs with the assistance of the Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture in support of Treaty negotiations. The purpose was to identify opportunities for tourism development from a First Nations perspective. The project provides an overview and analysis of existing tourism and recreation in the area, an assessment of tourism development potential, a tourism action plan including a regional cooperation strategy, and pre-feasibility assessments of the top commercial recreation opportunities in the area. Methods included: workshops with First Nations communities; consultation with operators; and GIS mapping of tourism opportunities. A primary objective was to enable First Nations to set a direction for management of tourism opportunities in the study area.
